I entered a wormhole not long ago when I became obsessed with all things Japanese Art Deco. That's how I discovered this ring (in the most unlikely place, but that's a whole other story), which truly captures the distinctive elegance and regality of the Japanese Art Deco aesthetic. The untreated "A" grade double jadeite cabochon is a rich, evenly toned apple green that darkens at the edges and changes throughout the day, depending upon the lighting. At night, it's as if the ring has changed into formal wear because it presents itself as almost an imperial jade. Outside during the daytime, it's like summer on your finger. It's a distinctive and very cunning cabochon cut that bulges ever so slightly at the base, just above the bottom, which is convex. It made me wonder why all jade cabochons aren't cut this way, because the subtle modification the lapidary artist made here does something wonderful to the light. It's a little tricky to measure the stone because of the prongs, so these measurements—12.14 mm x 9.12 mm x 5.89 mm deep—are approximate but very close. It's the depth that gives this stone such richness. And here's something else: inside is an inscription in very elegant, period-correct script, "Dot From___" and nothing else because the ring was resized losing all the hallmarks in the process except the metal fineness mark of K14. So it was Dot's ring. And she treasured it because it is in beautiful condition. The ring is yellow gold except for two shinning white gold shields on each shoulder. This fine and impressive antique ring has been crafted in 18ct white gold and platinum. The oval shaped cluster design is ornamented with a central feature multi-claw set 2.79ct oval cabochon cut jade. The jade is encircled by a total of sixteen pavé set eight-cut diamonds, displayed within a scalloped edged platinum frame. The pierced decorated, tapering and elevated 18ct white gold ring shoulders integrate with the main setting and blend seamlessly with the plain ring shank. The ring is hallmarked to the interior of the shank with the marks for 18ct gold and platinum (18CT PLAT). This antique jade ring is supplied with an independent diamond grading report card. Images do not always reflect the true colour and brilliance of gemstones and diamonds. The video however provides a truer representation of the actual colour and showcases each stone. Condition This impressive antique cluster style cocktail ring is fine quality set with an impressive cabochon cut jade and very high colour graded, very well colour matched diamonds displaying a fine white colour and brilliance. The ring is a very good gauge of gold and is in excellent condition with clear hallmarks to the interior of the shank.
