About the Item

This genuine Georgian 18ct yellow gold ring is Circa 1780, set with beautiful rick pink paste stones and a light aquamarine in the centre. All the stones have been tested. Beautiful all round decoration adorns this ring including the lovely shank which is detailed all the way round. Paste is a heavy, very transparent flint glass that stimulates the fire and brilliance of gemstones because it has relatively high indices of refraction and strong dispersion, the Romans in particular were very skilful in the production of coloured glass pastes. The sky blue of the Aquamarine makes it one of the favourite gemstones of most women in the world, as it complements most skin types and looks fabulous when worn. The Aquamarine is the birthstone for March. Two lovely forget me not's sit each side of the paste gallery. "Forget-me-not, O Lord!" is what a poor German knight shouted as he fell into a river. He and his lady were picking flowers by the side of the river at the time, no doubt enjoying the beautiful day around them, and yet as fate would have it, the knight's armour dragged him down to the bottom as he fell in. Upon his cries to the Lord, he threw the blue posy of flowers to his loved one and promptly drowned. This little tale reportedly dates to around the 15th century, but no doubt had different permeations along the way, as romantic stories often do. Hence, the concept of remembrance, eternal love and faithfulness grow from this. Unfortunately one of the forget me not's has lots a petal, this is minimal wear for such an old ring. This ring is steeped in English history, and looks fabulous when worn.
