Castellani Old Mine Cut Diamond 18kt Gold Cleopatra Ring
About the Item
A charming old mine cut diamond circa 1880 is bezel set into the Castellani® Cleopatra ring using our 18kt Terra-Cotta Red™ Gold with a bright polish.
The design is wide on the finger. The bezel sits up slightly higher that the flat gold sides that flank out from the center.
The old mine cut has been graded (before setting) as an L/M colour and SI1 clarity. This diamond does not have a gemological diamond report.
The Cleopatra ring design was a style that Castellani created in the 1860's and was inspired by Ancient Roman rings with this outline.
The Castellani and Double C logo plates are affixed to the inside gallery of the ring.
Castellani’s Jewellery from the 19th Century is in museums:
British Museum; Victoria & Albert Museum; Metropolitan Museum of Art; The Smithsonian’s Cooper Hewitt Museum to name a few); exhibitions as well as in private collections.
Fortunato Pio Castellani can be called the "Father of Archeological Revival Jewellery". In the mid 1800's in Rome, Castellani had the entree to visit the Ancient Etruscan ruins. He was able to study these Ancient designs as well as other Ancient Mediterranean civilizations’ jewellery and started to create and re-design under his brand
