About the Item

After the world wars, the European spirit was driven by a desire for new beginnings – and certainly also by a desire for beautiful things that would make forget the long years of privation. Soon, the shop windows gleamed with gold and gemstones once again, with modern jewels which were not merely adornment, but likewise a way to show off one's new-found joie de vivre. The style of those years was a conscious departure from the delicate, pierced designs of the first half of the 20th century, and often took stylistic cues from modern art. Thus, in jewels of the late 1950s and 1960s, texture was a big theme: gold surfaces were no longer merely shiny, but were made to appear in the texture of sand banks or tree rinds, at times leaving even association behind and becoming fully abstract. The ring at hand could not be a more perfect example of midcentury jewellery and its taste for luxurious materials presented in modern forms. The diamond ring was made in the illustrious workshop of Carl Bucherer in Lucerne, Switzerland, and presents a single, brilliant-cut diamond of 5.00 carats within a massive setting of over 31 grams of gold. The quality of the diamond has been certified by a renowned gemological institute, which has determined its colour as "light yellow", a warm shade which perfectly complements the lustrous gold setting. It has only few small inclusions unnoticeable to the naked eye, and shows a beautiful brilliancy and fire when hit by the light. As an artisanal, handmade piece, the ring provides the perfect setting for the rare diamond. The unique jewel is in perfect condition and will be accompanied both by the gemological institute's certificate as well as by our own.
