Klaftenberger. Rare Miniature Gold Hunter Quarter Repeater Pocket Watch C1871

About the Item

Klaftenberger. A Rare Miniature 18ct Gold Hunter Quarter Repeater Antique Pocket Watch C1871. Dial: The perfect white enamel dial fully signed Klaftenberger London, with Roman numerals outer minute track and subsidiary seconds dial at six o'clock. The original blued steel hands with matching seconds hand. Case: The heavy 18ct gold case with a beautiful blued enamel inlaind monogram with a crown above the monogram also inlaid with blue enamel. The back cover is plain as is the inner cover. The cases are all English Hallmarked and dated at 1871. The case is made by Alfred Stram, one of the finest English pocket watch case makers of his time. The repeater slide is at the side of the case. Movement: The fully jewelled fine three quarter plate movement, with compensation balance, Breguet overcoil hairspring and fast slow regulation, numbered and signed Klaftenberger maker to the Queen. The hammers and gongs are not visible in the movement. Klaftenberger was held in high esteem by Prince Albert and Queen Victoria and received regular orders for the supplies of clocks and watches to be presented as gifts. The company was also a contributor to the horological section of 'the Great Exhibition, ' where they received an honorable mention. This watch is rare because of it's size. It would make a fine addition to one's collection.

The History Henry Moser & Cie, often referred to as the 'Russian Swiss' company, was founded by Johann Heinrich Moser in Le Locle, Switzerland. Recognizing a vast market opportunity in Russia, the company strategically directed all its production efforts toward catering to the Russian market. Johann Heinrich Moser, born in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, hailed from a family of watchmakers. He honed his craft in Le Locle before relocating to Russia in the 1820s. Setting up a watch workshop in St. Petersburg in 1826, he adopted the anglicized name 'Henry Moser.' By 1828, Moser had established a trade office in St. Petersburg, expanding to Moscow in 1831. He even secured a residence permit for Nizhny Novgorod. Through the Nizhny Novgorod fair, Moser's watches found their way from Russia to India and China.
