About the Item

Vintage Garrard 9kt. gold men's wristwatch. There are hallmarks inside the case back for London, 1957 The dial is signed with the original retailer’s name of Garrard. Garrard & Co. is one of the world's most venerable jewellers and silversmiths. With a history that spans over three centuries, the brand has served as the official Crown Jeweller of the UK and has had the privilege of crafting some of the world's most iconic pieces of jewellery. Origins: The story of Garrard & Co. began in 1735 when master silversmith George Wickes founded his own workshop in London. This establishment would go on to become the esteemed Garrard workshop. Under the patronage of the British elite, Wickes and his successors began crafting pieces that would grace the collections of royalty and aristocrats. Regal Associations: The company's association with the British royal family began early in its history. In 1843, Queen Victoria bestowed upon Garrard the honour of becoming the first-ever official Crown Jeweller. This role meant that Garrard was responsible for the maintenance of the Crown Jewels, as well as the production of new regal pieces. Among the firm's most iconic creations is the Imperial State Crown, redesigned by Garrard in 1937. It's a crown that has been worn by monarchs on several state occasions, including the annual State Opening of Parliament.
