Cloud cars, 5/20 - figurative, playful, pop-art, lithograph, limited print
By Charles Pachter
Located in Bloomfield, ON
This charmingly whimsical lithograph of a classic Toronto image—the streetcar was one of a series Charles Pachter first created in the seventies. Two electric streetcars moving away from the viewer fill the frame—in yellow and pink— hydro lines above them appear to be suspended above a large cloud. Pachter is a much-admired Canadian artistic polymath, his colourful pop artwork merging playful even irreverent elements with deeply iconic imagery. Number 5 0f 20.
“…and a good art critic would compare it with Warhol’s soup cans...

Pink Tulip
By Charles Pachter
Located in Toronto, Ontario
Charles Pachter (b. 1942) is one of the most collected and cherished Canadian artists. His iconic, uplifting, and patriotic images have earned their place in the nation's museums and the Canadian art canon.
The Barn, along with Queen Elizabeth and the Moose, forms a triad of icons that Charles Pachter has repeatedly visited over the course of his career.
Completed in 2021, this exemplary painting introduces Pachter's flowers. This recent series focuses on an entirely new subject for the artist that started early on in the pandemic. Realized in a time of uncertainty and despair, this body of work is remarkably optimistic.
As with the best of his work, Pachter's charming imagery presents a new narrative on Canadiana, this time detailing the diverse flora encountered in his close surroundings.

Martini
By Donald Sultan
Located in Toronto, Ontario
Donald Sultan (b. 1951) is a prolific American painter, sculptor, and printmaker best known for his unconventional use and application of industrial materials such as tar, aluminum, and enamel.
Sultan's work is rich with contradictory elements. Rough, weighted materials are layered in rich applications, a contrary approach to the supple imagery of flowers, fruits, and everyday objects represented throughout his oeuvre. In a sense, Sultan is a second-generation Pop artist, with his interest in everyday objects explored through different mediums and moods.
Executed in bold, geometric shapes and a typically monochromatic palette, Sultan reduces his subjects to their essence in both color and form. His simple approach celebrates the ethos of the subject, resulting in qualities that ranges from playful and optimistic to ominous.
"Martini" is a chic example of Sultan's pared-down aesthetic. Featuring a perfect martini glass, Sultan accentuates its triangular brim by juxtaposing it with three plump olives that rest in the center of the cocktail.
Sultan has received many honors and accolades over the course of his career, most recently receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award presented by the Houston Fine Art...

Truck
By Andy Warhol
Located in Toronto, Ontario
Andy Warhol (1928-1987) is arguably the most important American artist of the 20th century. He not only defined Pop Art but had an unrivaled influence on artists and image-making.
In the 1950s, Warhol began his career as a fashion illustrator working for top magazines (like Harper's Bazaar) and elegant shops (such as Bonwit Teller) in addition to many smaller independent fashion companies.
The artist's early exposure to commercialization was an important influence on his contribution to Pop Art. Mirroring his lifelong infatuation with branding and celebrity, Warhol embraced ubiquitous imagery (from glamorous icons to Campbell's soup cans) while shining a light on cultural and commercial archetypes of the era.
Completed in 1985, this vibrant unique color trial proof screenprint was commissioned by the German Federal Road Haulage Association (BDF) for the 20th World Congress of the International Road Transport Union (IRU).
While a cargo truck may seem an unlikely subject for the legendary Pop artist, its symbol represents the impetus of industrialization. Set on a powder blue background, the truck is ignited by florescent shades of tangerine, grapefruit, and canary yellow as it launches down a cobalt highway.
2022 has been a monumental year for Warhol after new records for auction sales in different categories. Most notably in May 2022, his 1964 work "Shot Sage Blue Marilyn" achieved $195 million, making it the most expensive American artwork...
