Large Art Glass Bowl by Michael Bang
Located in Lymington, Hampshire
A large art glass bowl by Michael Bang, of undulating circular, spiralling form, blown in clear glass with two swirls of opaque white and red pigment. Scandinavian, late 20th century.
Michael Bang (1942-2013)
Current And Advanced Glassmaking Art
Michael Bang (1942-2013) was the son of Jacob E. Bang, Holmegaard's first
designer. In the 1960s and 1970s, Michael Bang was a designer at the Odense
Glass Factory, but moved with his family to Holmegaard in the 1980s when he
joined the Holmegaard Glass Factory. Here he managed the design of the
mouth-blown lamps in opal-white glass in which the glass factory
specialised.
Michael Bang was quick-witted, fascinating and fun and able to spellbind an
audience when the glass factory organised talks and presentations.
Many of his products have now become collector's items. Holmegaard carries
his vases and flower pot covers in the MB range (1981), the Mandarin lamp...

Rare Garniture of George III Baskets, London, 1778, Philip Freeman
By Robert Hennell
Located in London, GB
This extremely rare and fine garniture of George III neo classical baskets were made in London in 1778 by Philip Freeman. The Baskets all stand on a square pedestal foot which is pierced with horizontal pails and roundels, as well as being engraved with prick dot designs. The Classical vase shaped main bodies are also pierced with horizontal pails and roundels and the front of each piece displays a disc cartouche engraved with a contemporary Crest. The rim and swing handle, instead of being decorated with beading, are unusually engraved with various prick dot and bright cut bands, including stylised flower heads. Each basket is in excellent condition, has a blue glass liner and is fully marked in the foot.
The baskets are of a very rare decorative design and Philip Freeman was known for producing unusual baskets and pails, although his work does not survive in great quantity. These are also unusual in that they stand on a pierced foot, echoing the designs on the main body. The smaller baskets would have been used for cream and the larger ones for sugar, however it is extremely rare to find a garniture. They are almost always found singly or in pairs, in sizes. A very rare Classical garniture of outstanding quality.
Measures: Height of the sugar basket, to the rim: 5.4 inches, 13.5cm.
Height of the cream basket...

Fine Gilt-Bronze and Champlevé Enamel Garniture Set, circa 1890
Located in Brighton, West Sussex
A fine gilt bronze and Champlevé Enamel Garniture Set comprising a pair of candelabra and a brûle-parfum and cover.
French, circa 1890.
The brûle -parfum or censor with a domed champlevé enamel lid above a gilt bronze pierced guilloche border with ram's head mounts supported by a baluster column flanked by seated putti finely cast with musical instruments on a circular base. The candelabra en suite having a pair of of putti figures supporting candlearms with circular champlevé enamel drip trays and sconces.
Champlevé enamelling, is similar to cloisonné in that the enamel is applied to discrete cells separated by metal. However, in champlevé, cells or troughs are cast into or cut away from the metal base, leaving a raised metal line between the cells which forms the outline of a design. The cells are then filled with molten or powdered glass and fired.
