Italian, Neoclassical, Montgolfier, Chandelier, Glass, 8 lights, 1780 - 1820
Located in SAINT-OUEN-SUR-SEINE, FR
Wonderful and rare Italian chandelier in the "Montgolfière" - Hot Air Balloon - style dating from the end of the 18th – beginning of the the 19th century (circa 1780 - 1820). Garlands festoon from the top to a circular ring in the middle. The garlands then festoon from the circular ring and are attached to a central piece underneath. This style is typical of hot air balloon and Regency chandeliers. At the end of the 18th century, under the reign of Louis XVI, King of France, the Montgolfier brothers invented the Montgolfière. This invention inspired cabinetmakers and decorators of the 18th and 19th centuries. Hot air balloon chairs...
