Tiros III - Contemporary Futuristic Space Painting (Red+Blue+Black+Gold)
Located in Gilroy, CA
"Tiros III" is an original pop art painting by LA-based artist Casey Courey-Pickering aka Hero. Hero’s collection of works focuses on “movement through the spectrum of light, time and space, and what possibilities exist at the intersection of imagination, innovation, and choice.” This particular work features an astronaut appearing to fall past concentric circles. With intensely saturated colors of red, gold, black, and blue this piece captivates the eyes. In this series, the artist uses diamond...

"Present Perfect" contemporary oil painting of a wrapped gift, pretty in pink
By Maryann Lucas
Located in Sag Harbor, NY
A painting of a perfectly wrapped white package against a magenta background. Centered in the composition sits a white polka dot wrapped box, sitting with the edge directly down the middle of the canvas, and topped with a shiny magenta ribbon. The white of the present reflects a bit on the ground, as if the ground is slightly shiny.
Painting dimensions: 12 x 12 inches
Frame dimensions: 13 x 13 inches
Framed in a white floating frame
Artist Bio
Maryann Lucas lives and works in Sag Harbor. She is primarily self-taught but has also received instruction and support from wonderful and generous members of the East End artistic community. Working exclusively in oils, Lucas sets out almost daily to create plein aire landscapes and seascapes. In her studio, she works directly from life and captures the beauty of natural light as it transforms ordinary objects into visual delights.
Lucas wants her work to celebrate all that is well with this world and brilliant in this life, despite its pockets of darkness.
For me, she says, I know I am in the Presence of something beautiful, when it steals my breath, silences my mind, pushes out everything else and draws me in. I trust That. I use That to guide my hands as I arrange a still life or scan a landscape to determine where to set down my easel. Ultimately, That is what drives me to paint.
Becoming evermore skilled as an oil painter is another of Lucas goals. To that end she remains teachable, finding it refreshing and vital for her own growth to paint with others. She has studied with favorite artists including Michael Klein...

"The Secrets in the Circle, " Oli Sihvonen, Blue and Red Hard-Edge Geometric
Located in New York, NY

The Secrets in the Circle, 1962
Oil on canvas
25 x 34 in
Signed lower right; signed, titled dated, and inscribed "Box 563 Taos, N.M." on the reverse
Provenance:
Private Collection, Nyack, New York
Known for large, hard-edged abstractions, Oli T. Sihvonen, a Brooklyn native of Finnish ancestry, grew up in Connecticut. He attended the Norwich Art School before enrolling at the Art Students League in New York between 1938 and 1941. During World War II, Sihvonen served in the United States Army as a sergeant, specializing, as he later said, in “camouflage and deception.” His tour of duty took him to Europe where he encountered the work of Paul Cézanne.
In the summer of 1946, Sihvonen traveled to western North Carolina to study at Black Mountain College, which experienced a boost in enrollment following the war years. He was greatly influenced by the progressive color theories of Josef Albers, and, later, the thinking of Buckminster Fuller. After leaving Black Mountain in 1948, Sihvonen continued his studies under the G.I. Bill at Louis Ribak’s Taos Valley Art School in New Mexico from 1949 to 1950. A year spent painting murals in Mexico included work for the Instituto Politécnico Nacional in Mexico City, an early example of his large-scale proficiency. Returning to the East Coast, Sihvonen held a succession of teaching posts: initially in Washington, DC, and then in New York City, first at Hunter College in 1954 and the following academic year at Cooper Union.
Drawn to the southwestern landscape, Sihvonen moved to New Mexico, where he resided in Taos from 1956 through 1967. There, he painted sizeable geometric compositions with exuberant colors, which was atypical of Taos painters...

By Emanuel Buckvar

Provenance:
The artist
Private Collection, Long Island, 2011
contemporary AbEx artist Emanuel Buckvar successfully refutes the idea that there is nothing left to explore with drip or splatter paintings. Buckvar explores ideas of space and volume in his work. He frequently "paints in the dark" so as to focus on the process of creation as opposed to the thing created.
From the time he was a child, Emanual Buckvar loved, collected, studied and sold art purchased from estates, so for Christmas 2010, his wife bought him a batch of paint, stretched canvases, brushes. Then she had to nag him for months to give it a shot. Finally, he gave did, deciding to do some action paintings (outside at dusk in his driveway). To his astonishment, he sold several to customers for thousands of dollars each.
His first and best selling paintings...

A Furnished Room Howard Hodgkin, colorful abstract red green interior scene
By Howard Hodgkin
Located in New York, NY
Abstract red, green and grey interior scene with lines, shapes and hand painted brushstroke texture. Colorful large scale work ideal for display in minimalist, modern and contemporary spaces. While British pop artists such as David Hockney and Patrick Caulfield numbered amongst Howard Hodgkin's circle of friends, Hodgkin's work is painterly, expressionist, and abstract.
Paper 21.25 x 27.25 in. / 54 x 69 cm
Softground etching and aquatint (from two plates) with hand coloring in watercolor (green and orange). Signed by the artist and dated 77 lower right in pencil; numbered lower left in pencil. This print was proofed by Daniel Levy and printed and hand-colored by Ken Farley at Claes Oldenburg’s studio in New York, which Petersburg Press was using at the time.
1977 heralded a breakthrough in Hodgkin’s prints showing an increase in emotional content and intensity. They are more fluid and lush due to an increased looseness of handling. They show a richness and a surface texture previously lacking – mainly due to the application of gouache or watercolor by hand but also to the more tonal techniques of aquatint and soft-ground etching with its chalk-like lines. This print amongst others of the period was prompted by a visit to Tulsa, Oklahoma and represents an interior scene.
