5th Avenue Residence

Apartment by BHDM Design in New York, NY

This Fifth Avenue gut renovation reflects an updated take on black and white glamour of deco New York. Guests are greeted by the gallery, with black and white marble floors by Country Floors, and custom bolection trims acting as backdrop to a custom Charles Edwards light and Betty Merkin art.

Front of house, the living room was wallpapered with custom pearlized white ribbed Valhallan wallcoverings. The galley kitchen itself is all custom cabinetry in a high-gloss black finish with ribbed glass fronts, lights from Hudson Valley, and barstools in a Luna textile vinyl.

A TV room den is cloaked in gray flannel, and dressed with a purple pull out sofa for guests. Furniture includes a vintage Eileen Gray chair, Ralph Lauren side tables and lamp, and artwork from Trowbridge.

The primary bedroom is creamier in its approach, a soft respite for the homeowners. A 1stDibs bed was reupholstered in a silver faux bois from Mokum. The ceiling oval was added, and received silver leaf Maya Romanoff wallpaper. Windows are dressed in Holly Hunt and Osboorne and Little with Schumacher trim; Walls are in a silk from Designtex, and the rug is custom by Misha. Bedding is custom and Sferra.

The girls share a room, and two twin beds from Potterybarn were dressed up with a blue stripe from Lee Jofa. Described as “theater-loving Francofiles,” the inspir
