A Flat in Bloomsbury

Apartment by Caligula Supernova Interiors in London, GB

This project had a particular challenge: to give an identity and an aesthetic to a rented flat.

Having passed through a number of tenants, this late Regency property had lost its charm. With a restrained use of colour and some light alterations (eg: a picture rail re-used as a dado), it was possible to create an appropriate background to receive a carefully assembled collection of mostly antique furniture. The only major work was to install a reclaimed parquet floor, which immensly improved the atmosphere of the basement rooms.

As a groundfloor and basement flat, keeping good natural light was a major consideration. The original shutters were kept free of curtains, with a pale palette chosen for the walls. In contrast, a luxurious touch was added by the use of an 18thC tapestry, silk bed-hangings and de Gournay wallpaper on the wardrobe doors.
