Brooklyn Art Deco Duplex

Apartment by JAM Architecture in Brooklyn, NY

Filled with sweeping curves and intricate tile patterns, this fully renovated 1929 loft is what Art Deco dreams are made of. Our Scandinavian clients fully committed to honoring the original Art Deco style of the building in a modern way to complete their perfect extended family sharing space. The original apartment offered an awkward layout with a small entry area and only enough space to sleep a single family. It had also suffered significant water damage from a burst pipe and was hiding several major structural issues. Our full gut renovation completely transformed the layout, providing a natural flow for entertaining and accommodation for three families at once. Thoughtful solutions included blending the building’s pipes into curved soffits and arch details and lowering the floor of the living room and kitchen to gain ceiling height. Completed in 2019, this space went from cramped and uninspired to Gatsby-worthy.
