CITY FAMILY HOME (N London)

Family Home by Marion Lichtig in London, GB

Originally a series of flats, the owners had to move out of this house for a year whilst Marion Lichtig and her team completed a total refurb turning the whole property back into a large family house

Working closely with the architects throughout the project Marion had to strip remains of the flats out in order to convert it back into a house. Keeping as many of the original features in situ, although sadly the original floors could not be salvaged. Marion designed the kitchen and each of the bathrooms. Bespoke joinery work was created throughout the property. As the project took a year to rebuild Marion had time to search for special furniture, often at auction or in antiques shop plus look for lighting and fabrics juxtaposed with comfortable contemporary sofas that the clients had  a preference for. Using further sources along  Pimlico Road,   Lillie Road and Islington's Church Street, Marion also rummaged through flea markets in search of vintage finds. She has a preference for mixing elegance with rustic for a more interesting lived in look.

Whenever possible she would arrange for pieces of furniture to be sent on appro to the house to see how it looked in situ. For certain pieces of furniture she had to wait until the family had moved back into the house before searching for exactly the right piece. She adds 'I like to do this as I think it is important to give

the space time  to evolve and the client a feel of the evolvement before making wild purchases that end up looking completely wrong'.
