Snedens Landing Residence

Vacation Home by Alan Tanksley, Inc. in Palisades, NY

Just one hour from Manhattan, the bucolic Sneden's Landing enclave has housed some big names over the decades; high-profile residents include John Steinbeck, Orson Welles and Vivian Leigh. Fitting, then, that Alan Tanksley, with his matchless sense of space, light and color, was hired to design the interior of this 3,100-square-foot retreat that features open-plan living and dining areas and a screened three-season porch. Positioned on a bluff overlooking the Hudson River, breathtaking views of the natural landscape abound. Inside this newly-built home, large millstone fireplaces and vaulted ceilings with rustic wooden beams complement sophisticated, contemporary interiors. A luxurious selection of furniture, fabrics and thoughtful decorative pieces—all befitting the natural beauty of this woodsy oasis—flows throughout the three-bedroom house. Tanksley’s gray-blue palette, too, is reminiscent of fog rolling off the Hudson, at once subtle and ethereal. Throughout the spaces, Tanksley seamlessly blends traditional elements with colorful, modern touches in graphic fabrics and vintage travel posters embodying the designer’s European influence and deft hand.
