Apartment by Dumais ID in New York, NY

The clients are young and energetic with a growing family placing roots in Tribeca. Having just finished their Hamptons home that summer. They called Dumais Inc to have a look at this property they were considering in a newly converted warehouse building. The classic proportions and architectural layout take on a prewar approach to apartment living verses the loft like spaces typically seen in Tribeca. Dumais collaborated with the client and the buildings architect to re-work the floor plan of the apartment to encompass an extra 400 sq. ft. so we could create a four-bedroom apartment, with a Master suite to include a home office with walk-in closets. The family’s media room was conveniently relocated off of the kitchen with a custom seven-foot-wide pocket door to allow for more formal dinner parties. Immediately upon closing on the apartment we brought in our construction team to begin our design renovations. Refinishing of oak plank floors, new molding details, design of new lighting system which ties into to homes audio visual. Custom millwork and decorative finishes throughout the home. Dumais worked closely with Henry Built designing custom cabinetry for the Mud Room, Entry Hall and five closet systems in the Master Suite. We designed blackened steel and mirror doors to conceal three of the new closets along with a reeded glass partition to divide her closet from the study. The Powder Room received a full overhaul with a custom white oak vanity and onyx slab sink. Paired with a vintage factory pendant from Wyeth and Calico Wallpaper. The front Entry opens itself up to the central-core of the apartment and is the main transition between the public and private spaces. Dumais and the clients agreed this was the place for some major art to set the tone for a youthful and urban environment. To do this successfully we brought in a New York art consultant, Wendy Cromwell. Over the course of one year she assisted us to develop the client’s new art collection.
