The Chambord Penthouse

Apartment by Candace Barnes in San Francisco, CA

This project is Candace Barnes' own penthouse located within San Francisco's historic Chambord Apartments. Built over a century ago with rich ornamentation and decorative balustrades, its extraordinary architecture reflects the Beaux Arts influence of the period. The Chambord has previously been home to a number of notable interior designers including Billy Baldwin, Eric Cohler, Paul Wiseman and Billy Gaylord. Candace is the first female to make her mark on this historic residence.

Candace used several pieces from her eponymous furniture line, incorporated antiques from her years as a dealer and made bold choices for the interiors such as painting the library walls chocolate brown and injecting a trial theme with the rooms' four facing club chairs. Another nod to the popularity of animal print during the building's heyday is the crocodile embossed wall covering in the marble columned living room. Blessed with 360-degree views, the apartment is full of natural light and stunning vistas of the the bay, Grace Cathedral, Coit Town and downtown San Francisco.
