Rare pair of Chinese tianqiuping (globular) pottery vases feature mirror-like oxblood flambe copper red glazing with stamp on base, late 19th century. Measures: 17.75" H x 9" diam Tianqiuping; globular vases First developed during the Ming dynasty (1368–1644), these are notable for their heavily rounded bulbous bodies and long straight necks. During the Qing dynasty particularly in through the Qianlong period these became court favorites and were made using a wide variety of decorations. Among the wide range of antique Chinese vases this particular form is among the most enduring. Dazzling Copper-red glazes has throughout the history of Chinese porcelain been somewhat of the most sought after and at the same time, most difficult to achieve. During long period the carefully protected secrets of making them has turned out to be too well protected and the art has been lost. Because of this different red glazes has been invented and reinvented in the Chinese ceramic history - all with different names despite their superficial similarities. What brings them together are the fact that the glazes are all containing copper which turn red when fired in a reducing atmosphere.
