How do you tell a real painting from a print?

How do you tell a real painting from a print?
To tell a real painting from a print, study the artwork's surface carefully. On a painting, you can expect to see differences in texture and should be able to identify individual brushstrokes. Prints will usually not display brushstrokes. They may also be made of small dots or lines due to the processes that produce them. If you're still uncertain about your art type, a certified appraiser or knowledgeable dealer can assist in the identification process. On 1stDibs, shop a wide variety of paintings and prints.
