What are some interesting facts about Donatello?
1 Answer

Here are some interesting facts about Donatello. Unlike many other Italian Renaissance artists, Donatello did not study for years as an apprentice under a master sculptor. His training was instead in goldsmithing and stonemasonry. To convey a sense of motion in his works, Donatello developed a spiraling pose known as "figura serpentinata." Donatello also diverged from his counterparts in his use of materials. While other artists of the time worked exclusively in marble and bronze, Donatello dabbled with wood as well, using it as the material of choice for some of his best-known works, such as The Penitent Magdalene.
