What is the history of Lucerne watches?
1 Answer

The history of Lucerne watches is a little complex, as the name Lucerne watches can refer to different entities. During the 1970s and ’80s, there was a line of fashion quartz watches called Lucerne. This brand emerged in response to the quartz crisis. As consumers began preferring economically priced automatic watches, a consortium of Swiss watchmakers began providing components to a workshop that then assembled timepieces and sold them under the Lucerne brand as a way for luxury makers based in Switzerland to compete in the quartz market. There is also a watchmaker called Lucerne Watch Company. Launched in 1997, the company produces economically priced, Swiss-made watches. As a city, Lucerne, Switzerland, has a long history of watchmaking. There, Carl Friedrich Bucherer founded his workshop in 1888, where his manufacturer, CFB Manufacture, continues to produce luxury Bucherer watches. Some people generally refer to timepieces crafted in Lucerne as "Lucerne watches." In addition, a large luxury watch retailer in the Philippines is called Lucerne Watches. It opened in 1982 and today has several locations in the country. Find a large collection of watches on 1stDibs.
