What is the type of art where you can't tell what it is?
1 Answer
The type of art where you can't tell what it is is abstract art. It differs from representational art, which clearly portrays a particular subject. Abstraction evolved slowly and has its roots in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when Impressionists, Post-Impressionists and artists became less interested in showing subjects as they were. It wasn't until the 20th century that purely abstract art emerged through the work of artists like Hilma af Klint, Wassily Kandinsky, František Kupka, Robert Delaunay, Piet Mondrian and Kazimir Malevich. On 1stDibs, explore a wide variety of abstract art.
