About the Item

Untitled Fabric Design Gouache on paper, 1920-1935 Signed with the Atelier Stamp verso (see photo) Numbered with the Atelier Litt Archive number verso (see photo) No. 37365 Condition: Excellent Image size: 6 3/4 x 6 3/16 inches Provenance: Eric G. Carlson, (1940-2016) Art Historian and noted dealer Litt was one of the major fabric and tapestry designers in France from the later 1920's through the beginning of WWII. His designs were sought by interior designers, as well as fashion houses. Most of the designs were destined as wall paper or fabric designs. He opened his own design studio in 1927 and quickly emerged as a leading "taste-maker" riding a wave of public popularity for the new and different, fusing the recent art movements of art deco, art nouveau, cubism and fauvism. "1920-1940’S FRENCH TEXTILE DESIGNS BY ATELIER ARTHUR LITT A prominent French textile designer, Arthur Litt (Paris, France, 1905-1961) established the leading textile design atelier in the late-1920s in Paris. Featuring an oeuvre of striking abstract designs and a bold use of color, the Atelier Arthur Litt was a major contributor to the field of modern textile and fabric design from the 1930s through the Second World War. Original stencilled gouache designs on paper are numbered and bear the red ink stamp on verso: Dessins Industriels Paris Arthur Litt. Original gouache designs by Atelier Arthur Litt are in the collections of Minneapolis Institute of Arts and the Cantor Arts Center, Stanford University." Courtsey Munroe Fine Art

Located in Myrtle Beach, SC
Ernest A. Dieringer, Untitled (Color is Life), watercolor, 1959. Initialed 'ED' and dated ' '59' in red pencil at the top and bottom sheet edges—the artist's indication that the work can be viewed from either side. Signed 'Dieringer' in pencil in the bottom support board margin. Archivally matted to museum standards, unframed. Image size 9 x 10 15/16 inches; backing board size 13 1/2 x 16 3/4 inches. Provenance: ex. Collection Alexander Raydon. The collector/dealer's well-known 'Raydon Gallery' was established in 1962 on 82nd Street and Madison Avenue, New York City. ABOUT THE ARTIST Ernest Dieringer studied at the Art Institute of Chicago on a National Scholastic Scholarship, beginning his career with the Chicago-based Wells Street Gallery in 1957. He showed his work with other abstract artists, including Robert Natkin and John Chamberlain. Artists associated with the gallery eventually became known as the Wells Street Group. Due to the success of the gallery, Dieringer and other group members were invited by the Manhattan-based contemporary art dealer...
