About the Item

Daisy Craddock's Moros is an abstracted still life of a Blood Orange, rendered in oil pastel. Drawn from life, Craddock considers her diptychs to be literal depictions of her fruit and vegetable subjects: skin on the left side, and flesh on the right. When seen from a distance, Craddock’s produce-portraits appear to be abstract blocks of color. Since her permanent relocation to Germantown, New York, Daisy has not only had access to local produce, but has begun her own garden, as well. The love and labor of cultivating and raising produce is translated into her work. Indelible pastel marks are made judiciously on her paper, accumulating to create a portrait of her subject. Though they appear as color field abstractions, Daisy’s pastels are, in fact, dutiful representations of the unique landscapes of her subjects’ skin and flesh. The installation image shows a similar work of the same dimensions, but of a different fruit.
