About the Item
Abstract patterned work by Geanna Shattuc (American, b. 1963). Consisting of overlapping triangular shapes, this piece is simultaneously repetitive and dynamic - although the colors and shapes are repeated, no two are alike. This creates a sense of movement and uniqueness as the individual elements combine to create a field of color with varying density.

A native Californian, Geanna Shattuc was born in 1963. Although always a creative person, Shattuc began formally developing her skills as an artist in 2009 when she joined The Claraty Arts Project, an arts program, studio and gallery in Santa Cruz committed to the equality and empowerment of people with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Since joining the Claraty Arts Project, her artistic voice has grown into an impressive abstract vision of rhythm, repetition, and dynamic use of color. “I’m happy when I’m not confused. My art looks like a puzzle. Life doesn’t always make sense to me but puzzles do.” Shattuc’s art often consists of overlapping patterns that create a feeling of calm within the chaos of line work and color. Now, she strongly identifies as an artist: “It's my life. When people ask me who I am, I tell them I'm an artist! I didn't always have that. When I was younger, I didn't know what to say. I'm an Artist! There isn't anything else I say with that much power behind it.”
