About the Item

In Wayfinding No. 1, Katherine Filice invites the viewer into a fluid, intuitive search for orientation—a quiet mapping of the soul through subtle, luminous gesture. This intimate work, composed of soft washes of ink and translucent chalk lines, captures the raw immediacy of movement and memory. Shades of red earth, forest green, and watery blue collide and dissolve into each other like terrain viewed through fog or feeling. Loose linework emerges almost like spirit trails—arcing, dissolving, reappearing—offering no answers, only a suggestion of path. The work pulses with the energy of discovery, not destination. At its core, Wayfinding No. 1 feels like a meditation on navigating the unknown: personal, emotional, and environmental. It belongs to a larger body of work that blends mark-making and materiality with intuitive cartography, where line is both record and release. About the Artist Katherine Filice is an award-winning abstract and multimedia artist based in Northern California. Her practice is rooted in drawing and expanded through ink, sculpted paper, found natural objects, and buried canvas. Deeply inspired by the forests of the Sierra Nevada, Filice’s work is a co-creation with nature—often embedding organic materials or collaborating with time and terrain to shape her substrates. Her pieces explore connection, memory, grief, and the unseen rhythms that tie us to one another and to place. With a background in creative communications and over 30 years leading a nationally recognized design studio, Filice now focuses her full-time practice on the poetic intersection between nature, spirit, and mark. Her work has been exhibited in museums, art fairs, and galleries across the United States, Europe, and Asia.
