"I find light, with its wave nature as it flows and particle aspect when observed, fascinating and have attempted to capture this duality in my work. In this drawing, the sine curves emanating from the center depict the journey of light from the early universe and are overlapped with concentric standing waves symbolizing the expansion of space. The alternating black and white dots and waves represent visible light and its theoretical counterparts."

Shanthi Chandrasekar has been drawing and painting since early childhood, and has been trained in the traditional art forms of Kolam and Tanjore-style painting. While many of her works are influenced by her Indian heritage, her true inspiration comes from the mystery and majesty of the world around her; her muse lives where the scientific overlaps with the spiritual. Her artistic practice combines scientific and philosophical enquiry—facts and theories—with a wild imagination and constant exploration. She is fascinated by cosmology, the study of the origin, evolution and the ultimate fate of the entire Universe, and has pursued it through art. Her striking, beautiful, and complex works question our known reality and seek to learn more about the unknown.
