An unusually bright and whimsical watercolor painted when Miller was fifty-seven years old and living in his rustic cabin on Partington Ridge in California's Big Sur. This seminal American writer and artist pioneered a literary style that combined elements of novel, autobiography, social criticism, philosophical reflection and surrealist free association.
