About the Item
The colors suggest Efrem’s exposure to fauvism, while the structure evokes post-impressionism. The simplified shapes of the fish - otherwise rendered with some care for detail - can either evoke faux-naif joy or the delicate refraction found when viewing a figure or figures through water. The light is central, mysteriously, and the fish can even be considered to in a state of rapture, transfixed by their own enigma. It is a unique painting in the oeuvre of Mryl Efrem.
