About the Item

Christmas Time This graphite pencil drawing ˜Neo Deco “ 25-12-22 follows shortly after Roundism “ 22-12-22. Its Christmas and I have plenty of time for drawing. Even though Im with my family there is nothing particularly interesting on the telly. I dont like watching Love Actually for the 10th time nor do I fancy watching or listing to annual overviews. I quite like beginning and completing a drawing in one day. There is less time for artistic reconsidering by sleeping over it and redo things the next day. Its more or less a sort of hit or miss. I think it might be a hit. I have a good feeling about this one. Art Deco-ish In my last Neo Deco drawing I stated the reasons why I started this series. Consequently I refer to that art work if you want to read more about it. I think this one is a valid contribution because the motif stands for everything nice, at least in my eyes. There is a lovely lighting from two sides, creating a dramatic effect but great midtone nonetheless. In fact, I am a bit jealous because I didnt take the photo. Its a picture I dont know the origins of so I cannot give credit to the maker. However, I think it might be originating from the Art Deco era. One day I hope to have a bigger studio in which I can mimic these lighting and settings. What Style? There were no real nifty artistic improvements I craved doing this one. The motif itself was perfect enough so I only added the cubist styling. As to this I explain once more. My sort of cubism has nothing to do with traditional Picasso multi-perspectivism. Whats left is an abstraction in straight planes that causes the association with traditional cubism. Perhaps that is why I decided to call it neo deco. Tere are plenty of people who think my style is cubistic though. There are other people too who scorn me, nitpicking because of the lack of the multi-perspectivist qualities of my works. There are others coming up with suggestions for style naming. Because of all these different point of views I still am convinced I am on to something. Movement Another graphite pencil drawing ‘Art Deco Nude – 23-08-22’, inspired by again a smashing picture by Walter Bird. The last drawing shows a seated lady. Contrasts are always on my mind though. Not in the style but in movement this time. What attracked me in the motif was the angular position of the female form. I am not sure whether she stood still like this but it looks like some ritual dance. I can ask my Spanish model Julia who is a dancer to strikes these kinds of poses. All induced by Walter! Extrapolate Them The bodily features almost took up a perfect square. However, I wanted to make sure I wasn’t going to end up with too much negative space around her. Therefor, extrapolating her features into the negative space came to my aid. The planes that are born from this process support the overall expression of her moves, I think. Some of them I hached up to complete darkness, other to midtones. Vice versa I did in the positive form as well. The most contrasting tonal values (completely light / dark) I placed within the body. I wanted only mildly distracting or diffuse the viewer’s attention. This way I found a perfect balance. Emotional and Expressive Someone on called...

Just Another Artistic Motif This graphite pencil drawing ˜Venus Lamenting “ 13-01-23 is a special one. It is an indictment of prudishness. My second to last one ˜Roundism “ 30-12-22 apparently shook up a bunch of people. Comments varied from great to ˜yet another tit pic. There also were prudes from various countries who scorned me for the subject nudity anyway. Throughout the years I became used to these reactions somehow. I also take into account the fact people from each and any nation are present on social media nowadays. With this variety comes a whole set of different opinions and views of life. I cherish them all. That is, as long as they cherish my opinion back. If they dont, then this art statement is for all those who lack the word reciprocity in their dictionary. Climbing the Barricades Personally I think the nude can be as much an artistic motif as any other. In fact I dont complain in the least about a world of other motifs. One could like to depict golden retrievers, red roses and other darling, save and sound themes. I see them on a daily basis on Instagram and Facebook among others. I probably wouldnt have made a big fuss because of contempt shown in the past. Thats what an artist is all about. I even like to provoke with my nudes a bit. A bit of sexiness but not too much. Just to be able to deny the presence of too much of it by underligning artistic aspects as well. Hmm, a bit of risque here an there. I love it! Why climb the barricades once again? Heres why.
