About the Item

Once Again Once in a while I get that itchy feeling again that makes me want to turn to roundism. The last one by that title I made half a year ago. In between lie an odd couple of Geesje Kwak and Risque drawings. After the aforemeant last one I thought I was through with that style. Never say never again is what I experience as an artist though, over and over again. Now I see that the only thing that I have to do is to let it go sometimes. Do something else instead. Thinking and planning in series made me force to abandon a succesful style or series, in order to grow. Who knows what the tide may bring after a while. A Smashing Picture The love for textures in kimono’s (Geesje) and fur (Risque) has brought me to new insights. That was when I saw this incredible 1930s picture drifting by all of a sudden It seemed the opportunity was too good to let it pass by. Just like last time I didn’t catch the photographer’s name. I thank him or her wholeheartedly for the play with light and dark. It is not hard to imagine where Tamara de Lempicka got her inspiration from. The extreme tonal bandwidth makes everything appear conal. Forms get abstracted automatically, also by the hefty light source coming from the left. It shines right trough the body, lighting up only a tiny part of the lower right under arm for example. Such things are like artistic gems waiting to be plucked by me. Hairy Business The level of abstraction doesn’t differ from the reference picture much. It was a picture with a low resolution. I simply exaggerated some features and sliced them up roundistically. The hair is typical De Lempicka’s and I had ‘The Sleeping Girl (Kizette)’ in mind when I drew the hair in this one. Roundism - 20-08-20, Drawing, Pencil/Colored Pencil on Paper

Roundism - 20-08-20 Solarized Roundism After my drawing 'Roundism - 19-08-20' I put it as my goal to do another solarized one but a little bit less and more abstract. Drawn in my roundism style it looks essential and I did not need much but to be presented as a bodyscape. It is also inspired by my drawing 'Roundism - 08-09-16' that I like to call 'the deco one'. Eras Gone By Solarization as a visual element keeps lingering in my mind and I surely don't know why that is. I keep on thinking of eras gone by, like Art Deco, surrealism, Jugendstil and what have you not. Of course solarization and roundism are fruits from these artistic movements but then again from the past. Even though I was born and raised in an era of modern art, pre-Word War II-art is more appealing to me. I guess I am an aesthetic and therefor refute everything rude, ugly, mundane and repetitive like contemporary art has to offer these days. Whether it is television, architecture or art, it is all mediocre to be. In my eyes...
