About the Item

"What Was Before Becomes Now" is Dan Muller's 1999-2004 mixed media artwork. Blending together colors of red, yellow, blue, and green watercolor, cut and pasted paper, and India ink. Inquire about custom framing options. 29 1/2" x 40" Born in 1960 in Miles City, Montana, Dan spent most of his childhood in the Southern and central regions of Wisconsin. Dan's work is centered on the idea of using successive layers of transparent and opaque pigment along with pigment-impregnated rice paper to create a density of color that would not be possible solely by direct painting on the surface of the paper itself. He works to achieve an interplay of shapes and colors which will exist with equal freedom within that defined space, while striving to obtain a feeling of expansiveness no matter what the actual scale piece is.

Untitled No. 63 Abstract Composition Mixed Media
By Michael David
Located in Lake Worth Beach, FL
Untitled No 63, abstract composition 1987 Mixed media on wood panel, wax, oil, paper. signed with initials, gallery label. Abstract painter Michael David is best known for his use of encaustic, a technique that incorporates heated beeswax and pigment. Considered an inheritor of Abstract Expressionism, David’s abstract work primarily centers on the use of a densely layered surface to facilitate a direct and immediate spiritual experience. He often incorporates religious iconography and symbolism, art historical themes such as the nude, and contemporary politics into his paintings resulting in a critical dialogue between the layered abstraction of the surface and the integrated representational imagery. Alongside his work on canvas, David has developed a body of studio photography that recreates paintings by Caravaggio, Manet, and Mantegna, among others, in works that confront racism, homophobia, and sexism. David also works in mixed media and environmental sculpture...

'Subliminal' Colorful Mixed Media Contemporary Abstract by Steven H. Rehfeld
By Steven H. Rehfeld
Located in Carmel, CA
This 20" x 30" contemporary abstract mixed media piece by Steven Rehfeld is a captivating exploration of form, color, and texture. The composition features a harmonious blend of soft pastel hues — calming blues, delicate pinks, and mellow yellows — juxtaposed against more assertive tones of deep magenta, vibrant orange, and charcoal gray. The painting showcases Rehfeld's signature style of blending geometric shapes, notably triangles and circles, with freer, more organic brushstrokes. The added depth is achieved through the inclusion of mixed media elements: fragments of paper with faint sketches, scribbles, and translucent overlays create a multidimensional visual experience. The smoky, sinuous black mark towards the center adds a hint of dynamism, while the layered application of paint and paper produces a tactile richness, making the piece an engaging visual journey. Steven is now one of the top emerging artists in the U.S. His works are groundbreaking, bold, and imbued with unflinching disregard for painting conventions. Many works are in collections and museums in the U.S. Steven is also part of the 'Outsiders' school of art, originating in France in the 19th century. Also known as the Naïve movement, and was comprised of people with no art training at all, who suddenly started to paint. Many of them are from very challenging backgrounds. All they had was talent that had never before been tapped. In no time this movement became a significant art phenomenon and spread all over the world. His work, however, has branched out past the movement and his use of earth elements renders a basic and raw interpretation of his message. Original, 1-of-1. Shown at the American Art Gallery, Carmel-By-The-Sea, California. Keywords: colorful, mixed media, contemporary, abstract, expressionism, blue, pink, yellow, magenta, orange, grey, Steven H...
