About the Item
This 11.25 x 15.25 work on paper features a lone, seated, female dancer viewed from the back. The figure is twisting toward the viewer as she begins to look over her right shoulder. Her legs are pulled toward her body with the left leg crossed over the right. The isolation of the seated figure within the ground of the page lends a vulnerable quality to the work.
The 16 x 20 dark brown mat has a window size of 11.25 x 15.25.
Bio:
Jim Cobb, until recently was hanging his work on Canyon Rd in Santa Fe, New Mexico. One-man shows have been hosted in Taos, New Mexico, Norman, Oklahoma and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. When the Oklahoma Arts Guild had juried national shows, he had won every award from “Best in Oils” to “Best in Show”.
Most recent exhibits include a one-man show conducted by the Oklahoma Art Council where Cobb’s work hung in the Governors Gallery. Invited by the Norman Arts Council, his show was hosted several times over the years at the “Depot” at the Norman Performing Arts Center.
Cobb has taught life drawing as a faculty member in the College of Arts at the University of Oklahoma and has also taught at the Oklahoma City Museum and privately.

James Cobb has worked out of his studio in Norman, Oklahoma for the last two decades. Until recently he maintained a studio in Taos, New Mexico. His work is executed in oil when painting and charcoal and conté when drawing. He paints from life and hosts a life drawing session every week for artists around the state. Cobb tries to stay true to the subject but is increasingly adding abstractions to his work. He paints all subject matter including still-life, landscapes, portraiture, and figures.
