John Lear is an American artist known for his portrayal of the male figure. Born in Philadelphia, Lear studied illustration at the Pennsylvania Museum and School of Industrial Arts, and later taught illustration at a number of institutions including the Philadelphia School of Art. Lear’s work can be found in the permanent collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Reading Museum, and several others.
