Born in Philadelphia, Lear studied illustration at the Pennsylvania Museum and School of Industrial Arts, and later taught illustration at a number of institutions including the Philadelphia School of Art. Lear’s work can be found in the permanent collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Reading Museum, and several others.
