Timeless Body Art – Jolanta Johnsson, experienced Polish artist, graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, PhD of fine arts, university teacher. She currently lives in Sweden. This is how she writes about this drawing: The title of this drawing is "Timeless Body Art", which explores the timeless theme of the relationship between man and woman. This motif has been a constant presence in art for centuries, appearing in countless works of art such as drawings, paintings, and prints. One might question the necessity of adding another piece to this vast collection of timeless body art. Some may argue that everything that can be said on the subject has already been expressed. However, I felt compelled to create this drawing out of my personal need to contribute to this rich tradition. In my interpretation, each figure is depicted uniquely to emphasise their individuality beyond just their gender. The woman is portrayed with a soft, fluid line, surrounded by diluted ink that spills around and within her figure. In contrast, the man's silhouette is outlined boldly in bright white. The most striking aspect of the drawing is the overlapping of the woman's silhouette with the man's, creating a sense of unity between the two figures. I utilised two techniques in this ink drawing - free lavaging with diluted ink and a combination of soft greys with thicker blacks and lines. I juxtaposed soft greys with greys and blacks worked out more or less thickly with black lines. The use of pen and ink allowed me to explore a variety of possibilities in capturing the essence of this eternal theme.
