Migration/Transmigration - black & white, minimalist, ink and latex on paper

2020

About the Item

In this striking black ink on white drawing by Canadian artist Lynne Fernie, three standing figures appear to move across the canvas. Fernie’s abstract compositions explore the graceful gestures and energy of bodies and libidos—both human and animal. “It’s a visual language in the same sense as when a poet sits down, and they have some sort of feeling. They know there’s something to be said.” Lynne Fernie She is an OCAD honours graduate, a painter and an award-winning documentary filmmaker. Fernie has been the recipient of arts and film grants from the Canada Council, the Ontario Arts Council, and the Toronto Arts Council. She has been a jury member of both the Canada Council and Ontario Arts Council juries. Her visual art is held in numerous private collections. The talented artist is also a songwriter. Fernie worked with the Parachute Club and wrote the lyrics for their popular Canadian classic, “Rise Up”. Framed dimensions are 31.5 x 23 inches.

    By Charles Pachter

This artist’s proof (1/1) is a playful homage to the beloved image of a Toronto streetcar. Pop Artist Charlie Pachter was inspired to create a series of prints on streetcars for one of his first exhibitions in the seventies. This serigraph features the detailed outline of a streetcar angled across three panels—the back and front of a streetcar painted green appears on either side—top and bottom. The backdrop is neutral, bordered in gold. Pachter is a much-admired Canadian artistic polymath, his colourful pop artwork merging playful even irreverent elements with deeply iconic imagery. “….a good art critic would compare it with Warhol’s soup cans...
