Lynne Fernie
The Boy Who Came From the Sea - narrative, abstracted figurative work on paper

2011

About the Item

Rising above a strip of inky black, a black rag doll figure rendered in calligraphic brushstrokes meets three curved lines resembling waves in this painting on paper. A spray of light blue latex and black ink across the composition completes this narrative of birth and rebirth. Fernie is a masterful story-teller and here captures the mythological essence of a boy who came from the sea. Lynne Fernie is a Toronto artist, OCAD honours graduate and award-winning documentary filmmaker. She has been the recipient of arts and film grants from the Canada Council, the Ontario Arts Council and the Toronto Arts Council, and has been a jury member of Canada Council and Ontario Arts Council juries. Her visual art is included in numerous private collections. In addition to her visual arts career, Lynne is also a songwriter. She worked with the Parachute Club and wrote the lyrics for their Canadian classic, “Rise Up”. Framed dimensions are 50 x 36 inches.
