About the Item
A minimalist but masterfully executed monochrome watercolor. The work is striking in its lightness - although there is nothing on it except the figure of a child, from the way he is dressed, from the thick shadow falling on his face from the Panama hat, it is easy to complete the overall picture: a hot summer day, clear weather, scorching sun. The work is done on thick paper with water-soluble (or otherwise watercolor) graphite and graphite pencil. Bold strokes are combined with verified lines. The overall composition is laconic in its reminiscent of the works of Japanese graphic artists, but at the same time has all the expressiveness of the European school of realism.
Marina Skepner lives and works in Bonn, Germany. She was born in Moscow, studied at Surikov State Art Institute in Moscow and the Montenegrin Art Academy,
majoring in painting. She worked at the Dukley Art Residence by European Art Community and Dukley Summer School in Montenegro in 2015 and 2016.
The artist’s work often tackles the theme of childhood, the problem of understanding the essence of time, the particular perception and comprehension of history.
Marina is a member of the Bonn Union of Artists (BBK Bonn, Rhein-Sieg) and GEDOK-Bonn.
Marina has had many personal exhibitions and participated in numerous collective projects in Germany, Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, Ukraine, Serbia, Bosnia and
Herzegovina, Montenegro. Her works have been acquired for the collections of Marat Gelman, Juan Puntes (WhiteBox, New York), Giampaolo Abbondio (PAKS Galery, Milan), and others.
As a contemporary artist, Marina use her excellent craftsmanship to work in different techniques: painting, drawing, collage, installation. Her works are marked with flawless technique and original ideas.
