Sisters #2 (Contemporary Vertical Indigo Panel of Hands and Botanicals, Waxed)
Located in Hudson, NY
"Sisters #2", 2019 by Valerie Hammond 73 x 34.5 inches unframed Pigment, Color Pencil, Wax, Glass Beads, and thread on Japanese Rice Paper Coated with Beeswax Vertical, indigo panels that are unframed, can be installed with magnets, but framing is recommended. In Valerie Hammond’s series of wax drawings, protection is two-fold: the artist (previously) encases dried flowers and ferns in a thin layer of wax, preserving their fragile tissues long after they’ve been plucked from the ground. In outlining a pair of hands, she also secures a memory, or rather, “the essence of a gesture and the fleeting moment in which it was made.” Centered on limbs lying flat on Japanese paper, the ongoing series dates back to the 1990s, when Hammond made the first tracing “partly in response to the death of a dear friend, whose beautiful hands I often found myself remembering.” She continued by working with family and friends, mainly women and children, to delineate their wrists, palms, and fingers. Today, the series features dozens of works that are comprised of either hands tethered to the dried botanics, which sprout outward in wispy tendrils, or others over layed with thread and glass beads. Although the delicate pieces began as a simple trace, Hammond shares that she soon began to overlay the original drawing with pressed florals, creating encaustic assemblages that “echoed the body’s bones, veins, and circulatory systems.” She continued to experiment with the series by introducing various techniques, including printmaking, Xerox transfers, and finally Photoshop inversions, that distorted the original rendering...

Fenzoni, Painting AND preparatorial Drawing, John the Baptist, Italy Renaissance
By Ferrau Fenzoni
Located in Greven, DE
The painting and the preparatory drawing are offered together. Provenance Private collection, Germany, Trier, c. 1980- 2013 Saint John the Baptist Brown ink and wash over red chalk on oatmeal paper 31 x 20.5 cm Inscribed: „Ferrau Fenzonio da Faenza invt. esque … imp. da Fran. Villamena …“. bears the collector's mark of Henry Scipio Reitlinger (1882-1950; Lugt 2274a) on a tiny label glued to the verso On the reverse is a partial drawing of a Pieta, pricked for transfer. Provenance New York, Doyle, 14. October 2015, No. 6 The painting and the preparatory drawing resemble the composition of an engraving after Ferraù Fenzoni by Francesco Villamena. Drawing, engraving and painting are almost identical, except for minor differences. Even the measurements nearly correspond: painting (32 x 25,5 cm), drawing (30 x 20,5 cm), engraving (31,1 x 23,5 cm). Dr. Guiseppe Scavizzi confirmed the attribution of the present panting to Fenzoni and he dates it to c. 1590. The inscription on the drawing reads “Ferrau Fenzonio da Faenza invt. esque. . . imp. da Fran: Villamena . . .”. The engraving’s inscription also lists place and date “Ferra Fensionius inventor/F. Villamoena sculpsit Rome/Aspectu fruitur… antra puer/cum Privilegio… 1613”. Interestingly, the engraving is not mirrored as it is in most printing processes. Painting, drawing and engraving are not reversed but the same. It is remarkable to note that there are further paintings by Fenzoni which were engraved in the same order and not reverted. They also show strong parallels regarding the compositions and the measurements (see for example “Deposition of Christ” ). Ferraù Fenzoni was an Italian painter mainly active in Todi. He is also called Il Faenzone after his birthplace (Faenza). He apprenticed in Rome during the papacy of Gregory XIII and contributed to numerous fresco cycles under pope Sixtus V, such as the Loggia della Benedizioni in the Lateran Palace, the frescoes on the walls and vaults of the Scala Santa of the adjacent Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano, and the decoration in the Sistine library. His expressive canvases straddle the styles of Mannerism and Baroque. In 1594, he moved to Todi. A “Last Judgement” by him is housed in the cathedral of Todi. He returned to Faenza in 1599, where he decorated chapels in the cathedral from 1612 to 1616. In 1622, he completed a “Deposition”, now in the local Pinacoteca. In 1640, Fenzoni was named “cavaliere dello speron d’oro” by Cardinal Colonna and, on 25th April 1634, he was nominated vicar and “castellano of Granarolo”. Fenzoni‘s style is characterized by a mixture of the Mannerism of the Northern Netherlands and the Italian Baroque. Measures approx. 22 1/2" height x 14 1/2" width x 10" depth Her sculptures are made of natural sisal Fiber from an agave and meticulously hand painted. The eyes are hand blown glass. Anne Andersson was born in Gothenburg, Sweden, with a great desire to explore Nature and a Passion for Art. She received a degree in science in 1981 from Kjällbergska University in Gothenburg and a degree in Art from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. She now works from her studio in St. Petersburg, Florida as a Sculptor, illustrator and painter. Her work calls to mind the animalia artworks of Henri Maik and Gustavo Novoa. Anne Andersson's artwork serves as an homage to our planet’s charismatic and rare wild animals. Inspired by the majesty and beauty of exotic wildlife, and motivated by an urge to preserve them, Anne’s astonishingly realistic life-size sculptures capture the experience of seeing these animals up close without exploiting them. Her sculpted work using natural materials and clay, provides a humane alternative to big game trophy hunting and taxidermy. She combines her talents in painting, tapestry weaving and illustration with an intuitive attention to the smallest detail to truly bring her sculptures to life. She has created lions, tigers, leopards, jaguars, cheetahs, bobcats, lynxes, pumas, elephants, rhinos, bears, water buffalo, bison, moose, wolves, coyotes and more—but she feels closest to the big cats. Anne graduated with honors at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale in 1989. It was then that she met Don Moore...

Original Graphic Hungarian Illustration Art Emma Heinzelmann Children's Book Art
Located in Surfside, FL
Original vintage gouache painting on poster board by Emma Heinzelmann (Hungarian, born 1930). Hungarian Peasant art, children fairytale themes, in psychedelic pop colors of the era. This framed painting depicts figures, a rooster and angels in flying above. Artist signature on farm gate. Housed in chrome mid century frame. Framed: 19.5 X 25.5 image is 15 X 21. Emma Heinzelmann ( Nyírbátor , March 14 , 1930 - ) Munkácsy Prize-winning Hungarian graphic designer and illustrator. Heinzelmann is a Hungarian children's book illustrator and graphic poster artist, who started her career during the 1950’s. She has a very unique drawing style that resembles children’s book illustrations. Working in psychedelic pop colors of the era. She Initially she studied to be a costume designer but she soon turned to graphic design. She graduated in 1950 from the clothing design department at the Junior High School in Török Pál Street which operated under the name Szépmíves Lyceum from 1946 to 1950. His master was György Farkas, a ceramicist, painter and sculptor. She creates her compositions using mainly watercolor and gouache paint. She often worked on illustrations for children’s books, since her style fits their themes. Her posters show the same playful Hungarian Folk Art style. She has produced artwork in almost all areas of applied graphics. posters, commemorative cards, designed album covers, postcards, advertising graphics, slide films, animation and cartoons. Her drawings were published in Dörmögő Dömötör and Kisdobos among others as well as in children's magazines. An entire generation of children grew up with her book illustrations, reading the fairy tales of Wilhelm Hauff or Hans Christian Andersen. Her story books and drawings are known well beyond our borders. She illustrated nearly 80 storybooks. She is a contemporary of Maurice Sendak and William Steig. Her work is of the same genre as the iconic Polish Cyrk poster artists. In her original fine art graphics grotesque and bitter elements often prevail, her figures are playfully ironic. Her drawings are made in a variety of ways, from pencil drawings to watercolor painting to collage techniques, from decorative spot effects to lace-like line drawings. She is no stranger to a kind of Art Nouveau influence, but it is always individual. It was never beautiful, but over the years its color scheme changed, thus confirming the lines of József Somogyi quoted earlier. She had several individual exhibitions, and for more than 10 years as a member of the Papp-Gábor group, her works could be seen in Dorottya Street. In 2009 , the book of art historian András Székely was published by Holnap Könyvkiadó under the title Emma Heinzelmann: fairy tales in the drawing.
