Frame size 17.7 inches x 15.2 inches ( 45cm x 38.5cm ). Available for sale is this original pastel and pen drawing on paper by Dora Holzhandler dated 2007. The artwork is presented and supplied in a sympathetic contemporary frame (which is shown in these photographs), mounted using conservation materials and behind non-reflective glass. This piece is in superb condition. It wants for nothing and is supplied ready to hang and display. The artwork is signed lower right. Dora Holzhandler was an exceptional artist of Polish-Jewish descent who escaped Nazi persecution in Europe to forge a successful career in Britain. She was discovered by artist Victor Pasmore in 1947 and had her first exhibition in 1954. She continued to exhibit for more than sixty years. Today her paintings are on display in the Museum of Modern Art in Glasgow and the Jewish Museum London as well as many museums and collections both in the UK and abroad. Dora Holzhandler was born to Jewish-Polish parents, who had fled anti-semitic persecution in their native Warsaw and met and married in London. They were living in Paris when Dora was born on 22nd March 1928. Her father had fought for the British Army in WW1 and gained British nationality. He was a handbag maker and her mother was a seamstress. Their livelihood suffered as the world economy moved into recession following the Great Crash and Dora was fostered for five years by a French farming family in Normandy. She returned to Paris in 1933 and became close to her maternal grandfather, a devout rabbi, who was later killed in Auschwitz. In 1934, she moved to London where the family lived as part of the vibrant Jewish community in the East End, and was evacuated to Norfolk, aged eleven, at the outbreak of WW2. Elin Siân Blake is a contemporary Brecon-based artist, originally from the South Wales valleys, whose work delves deeply into the rich tapestry of Welsh heritage. Through various mediums, she creates poignant reflections of societal and cultural issues that have shaped the Welsh identity. Born in 1981, Elin Siân Blake began producing commissioned artwork from an early age, focussing on the traditional Welsh ponies and landscapes of her childhood. She was particularly inspired by the agricultural and equestrian events she attended. As a teenager she spent all her spare money on art supplies. Blake graduated from the University of Glamorgan in 2002 with a degree in graphic design and illustration, but quickly realised that she wanted to create conventional paintings, rather than producing digital images. Edmund D. Kinzinger was born in 1888, in Pforzhein, Germany. In Munich he studied at the Kirr Schule and the Staatliche Akademie, and pursued graduate studies at the Academie Modern, Paris. Before serving in the German Army, Kinzinger was a master student of Adolph Holzel at the Staatcliche Akademie, Stuttgart; he returned to study under Henrich Waldschmidt after nearly five years of artillery service. Several of Kinzinger’s fellow students in Germany, such as Johannes Itten, would go on to be associated with the Bauhaus school. Coming into contact with all manner of artistic influences in Europe after World War One, Kinzinger’s work may be viewed as a “synthesis” of modernist styles. The influences of Abstract Expressionist, Cubist, and Futurist styles in Kinzinger’s work at this time are symptomatic of his contact with the likes of Hans Hofmann, Pablo Picasso, and Alexander Archipenko.
