An original signed watercolor/gouache on thin illustration board by English artist Alfred Sale Watson (Late 19th Century - Early 20th Century) titled "Bridge at Sonning on Thames", 1905. Hand signed and dated by Watson lower left. It is also titled and dated on verso, likely by a previous dealer. Beautifully matted with hand decorated archival French matting. Matted size: 20.25" x 26.25". Image size: 15" x 21". Has been professionally stored away for decades. In excellent condition. Sonning is a village and civil parish in Berkshire, England, on the River Thames, east of Reading. The village was described by Jerome K. Jerome in his book Three Men in a Boat as "the most fairy-like little nook on the whole river". Alfred Sale Watson (Late 19th Century - Early 20th Century) was an English artist who specialized in watercolors of English landscapes of the countryside in various areas outside London.
