C A Hay (fl. c. 1800) Valle Crucis Abbey 8 x 12 cm Pen, ink and monochrome watercolour Signed lower right Valle Crucis is a Cistercian abbey located in Llantysilio in Denbighshire, Wales. The abbey was built in 1201 by Madog ap Gruffydd Maelor, Prince of Powys Fadog. In 1537, at the height of Henry VIII’s Dissolution of the Monasteries, Valle Crucis was dissolved and fell into disrepair. The abbey is now a ruin, though large parts of the original structure still survive. We also have in stock an en-suite watercolour of the nearby Llangollen.
