About the Item

Robert Strati is an American artist who creates multimedia artworks using broken plates. His recent series “Fragmented” started when he accidentally dropped and broke a porcelain plate. The plate being inherited from his wife’s mother, Strati and his wife didn’t want to throw the fragments away. The plate had sat on their counter for a few months when Strati saw a vision of the motif on the plate expanding beyond the piece of porcelain. The artist mentions in an interview with Visual Atelier 8, that “this also speaks to the reality of so many things coming from mistakes and the power of accidents, if they’re embraced from a positive perspective.” He finds beauty in chaos, and creates artworks from that beauty. The pieces come alive when Strati literally expands it, like life bursting out of fragments of broken plates, which were previously thought to have lost their purpose and life. Using that negative association people have with accidents and broken plates, he transforms them into art. The audience can feel the energy and almost hear the sound that the plate made when it broke. It’s almost as if there is energy flowing out of the plate, and reaching to the viewers. The “Fragmented” series as well as Strati’s other works have a therapeutic feeling to them. That is probably because the act of making his works was a form of meditation. Bringing fragments together, imagining the motif flowing through and out of the piece and creating a whole new world. Robert Strati was born in Boston, MA in 1970 and grew up in Columbus, OH. He earned a degree in Art History from the Ohio State University. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally including exhibitions at Sherry Frumkin Gallery, Los Angeles, Catharine Clark Gallery, San Francisco, The Wexner Center for the Arts Columbus, OH and the International Print Center NY, NY among others. He currently lives and maintains his studio in New York.

Stormy Seas, Abstract Painting
By Dorothy Dunn
Located in San Francisco, CA

Artist Comments
"Negative space interplays with the deep hues of poured color - evocative of the crystalline blue and dark gray of waves against white foam and blowing mist at sea," says artist Dorothy Dunn. An ethereal abstract seascape with layers of blue, green, and yellow, punctuated with black. "This painting was created using multiple raw and controlled pours of transparent and saturated acrylic paint on canvas to achieve layered depth and interest."

About the Artist
From childhood on, Dorothy was always eager about painting. Her grandfather encouraged her to graduate from a finger-painting enthusiast to a more mature and serious artist. Dorothy’s approach to her abstract artwork entails pouring paint in transparent layers to create sweeping colors across the canvas. Regardless, she manages to stay true to her childhood roots: “To this day, my clothes and hands always reflect the colors I am working with,” says Dorothy. “And I once again rediscovered the joys of finger-painting with my children!”

Echoes from the Breeze
By Francesca Borgo
Located in BARCELONA, ES
Through my work, I invite viewers to find themselves in the ebb and flow of these abstract landscapes. Each piece is a reminder that, just like the clouds shifting across the sky or the waves reshaping the shore, we too are constantly adapting, evolving, and finding new ways to thrive. It is an exploration of how resilience is not a rigid stance, but a fluid process—a journey that requires both the gentleness to bend with change and the energy to face it head-on. In today’s world, where the pace of life often feels as unpredictable as the weather, my art speaks to the universal experiences of growth, adaptation, and the quiet strength that lies beneath the surface of every turbulent wave. Through these pieces, I hope to create a space where viewers can see their own stories—where they can find comfort in nature’s wisdom and inspiration in its endless capacity for renewal. I deem my works are mainly influenced by modern and contemporary artists, such as Zao Wou-Ki, Zhang Daqian, Julie Mehretu, David Hammons, Wu Chi-Tsung and traditional Chinese ink art...
