Victor Pillement (French, 1767 – 1814) Two peasants by a vault near the walls of a town; and Boatman on the banks of a mountainous lake Pencil and body colour and black crayon on paper Both signed ‘V Pillement’, the latter dated 1807 (lower right) 7 x 10.1/4 in. (17.8 x 26 cm.) A pair Provenance: Christie’s, London; Old Master Pictures and Drawings 07 Dec 05, lot 445 A very nice pair of drawings that are well handles and representing snapshots of daily in the early 19th Century. It is unclear whether these are scenes local to him or whether they would have been untaken on the Grand Tour. One can tell he one prizes for his engraving with his ensured style. His father was the famous painter Jean Pillement.
