About the Item

Miles Cleveland Goodwin says, "I don’t like to do things I don’t know." Not unlike the spirit of Southern literature and Delta blues music, there is an autobiographical nature to his storytelling. In Goodwin’s soulful compositions, he narrates the story of his life and the essential nature of animals and land around him. In his work, we feel the temperature and humidity. We sense the ever-present spiritual forces that guide our world. We experience the inherent ambiguities and provocations felt when confronting life as it is. The honest intention and lack of guile behind the paintings resonates within us long after an encounter with his work. Miles Cleveland Goodwin was born in Biloxi, Mississippi, and raised in the South. He earned his BFA at Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon. He lives and works in Georgia. This is monoprint and watercolor on paper. The paper size is 30 1/8 x 22 1/4 inches. The price does not include a frame.

Howard Tangye (b.1948, Australia) has been an influential force in fashion for decades. Lecturing at London’s Central Saint Martins for 35 years, including 16 years as head of BA Womenswear. There, he tutored many contemporary greats, including John Galliano, Stella McCartney, Christopher Kane, Wes Gordon, Zac Posen and Hussein Chalayan. Examples of Tangye’s portraits are held in many important collections, both public and private, including the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), Harvard University and London’s National Portrait Gallery. Throughout his teaching career Tangye quietly developed a particularly idiosyncratic art practice. By employing a decisive line with bold applications of richly layered materials, Tangye explores the nuances of the human form in an effort to expose his subjects’ true essence and energy. — Howard Tangye Craig (Richard's Friend - Sitting - Blue Jacket), 2012 Mixed media on grey...
