About the Item
A chalk and crayon study for a scuplture by French female artist Marie-Josèphe Bourron. Presented in modern frame with mount under glass. Though not signed the drawing was acquired direct from the artists studio in Barjols, South of France.
A study drawing full of vivacity and energy. Bourron has used strong lines to create the figure leaning forward with her weight to her knee, head looking down. Though nude the subject retains her modesty and allure. The artist has highlighted with some body colour to give contrast to the composition. A really lovely composition worthy of any collection or interior.
Originally from Grenoble she moved with her husband to Paris where her friend François Soubeyran — one of the four members of the Jacques brothers — was a singer but also a potter and introduced her to working with clay. Inspired Marie-Jo Bourron enrolled in evening classes at the Beaux-Arts de Paris in 1968. She continued working with clay but also experimented and found a love for marble and bronze. She exhibited for the first time in 1974 in Paris at the Salon des Indépendants.
She continued to exhibit almost every year in France but also in the United States, Germany, Switzerland, both individually and in groups, including in 1988 in Chicago as a duo, at the Jacques Baruch gallery with photographer Lucien Clergue and painter Sacha Chimkevitch on the theme of jazz.
