An exceptionally fine, brush and wash, mythological figural study showing a centaur interrupting the playing of his pan pipes to cast a speculative eye towards a dancing nymph. Dating to the turn of the the century, this masterful work may have been modeled on a detail from a high-relief architectural frieze.
Signed lower right, 'T.M.' and painted circa 1900.
Displayed within an ivory silk mat in a carved and gessoed, giltwood frame. Framed dimensions: 18.75''H x 18.5''W x .5''D
