Dimitri BouchenePortrait of Serge Lifar
Dimitri Bouchène was born in Russia in 1898, a descendant of French Huguenots. As a young man, he fled Russia to live Paris during the golden Twenties. Captivated by the ballets of Diaghilev, he quickly rose to success with his costume designs for Anna Pavlova in 1926. With his view of the stage as a dreamland and his way of combining decors and costumes in the same palette, Dimitri Bouchène is praised as a master of theatre décor who forever left his mark on the performing arts and the decorative arts.
