In recent years, MB has also created a unique gallery - drawing black and white pencil portraits of iconic celebrities on matchbooks, while using the actual matches in the display. Borne of an act of random bar doodling, his matchbook art has become increasingly popular. Currently, approximately 40 of Bell's matchbooks are touring the Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museums. His take? “Everyone likes to play with matches.”
MB was born in Atlantic City in 1960, a time and place rich with imagery and influences close to home and in the media. Saturday mornings and afternoons watching classic horror movies and the best cartoons ever created. Throughout grammar school and high school he spent countless hours drawing and painting. The College of New Jersey provided him with the tools he needed to pursue a future in Advertising Art - Majoring in Advertising Design with a Minor in Illustration.
