About the Item

Delicate branches, roots, and drifting clouds in soft ochre, white, grey and black form a playful map-like narrative in this unique printed image. This monoprint began with images carved into stitched copper sheeting using a drypoint needle. Oil based inks were applied to this surface that was then pressed onto archival Hahnemuhler paper. The second stage of the monoprint involved the skillful application of paint to the copper plate and a second pressing, adding highlights to the work. "The finished prints, with their quick, graceful sketches, their hand-stitched centres, resemble pages in a tattered old sketchbook, and somehow manage to convey that same sense of being deeply personal, completely original creations." - Kristen den Hartog Susan Collett is a graduate from the Cleveland Institute of Art, Ohio U.S.A. earning a BFA degree in Printmaking with a Minor in Ceramics. Since 1993 she has run a full-time studio art practice in downtown Toronto. Public and private gallery exhibitions and commission work sustain her full-time practice. Collett has exhibited internationally in the Korean Biennale, Taiwan Biennale, International Triennial of Silicate Arts, Kecskemet, Hungary, Sevres Porcelain Museum, Paris, and the CEBIKO International Ceramics Biennale in Korea 2009. She has exhibited at SOFA Chicago, New York, Palm Beach and the Toronto International Art Fair. Collett's work is included in private, corporate and public collections including Kasturbhai Lalbhai Museum India, Canada House, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, The Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art, The Tom Thomson Memorial Art Gallery, The Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery, Ernst and Young, Trump Tower Miami, The Four Seasons Hotel, Toronto, Aimia, Toronto and Montreal and The Canadiana Collection of the Official Residencies of Ottawa, Rideau Hall where the sculpture Filigree was placed in the private office of the Governor General of Canada.

Untitled (Work on Paper) - vibrant, modernist abstract, mixed media on paper
By Otto Rogers
Located in Bloomfield, ON
The vibrant colours—burnt orange, turquoise, black-a touch of green and the dynamic form of this inspired composition is quintessentially Otto Rogers. The modernist artist was masterful in his use of acrylic paints and his work reflected the natural beauty that surrounded his country studio. Saskatchewan born Rogers (1935-2019) was recognized by the NY art critic, Clement Greenberg as a ‘big attack’ painter early in his career and stated that his artwork showed a ‘fullness of inspiration.’ A devout follower of the Baha’i faith, Rogers did not view art as simply a ‘decorative thing.’ “Nature is God...
